Day 17: "Second in Command" (2006)

The Seventeenth Damme Day:
"Second in Command" (2006)
This is a completely different type of movie for JCVD. He plays a soldier, a Navy Seal, who is assigned as a military attaché to the US embassy in the tiny European nation of "Moldavia."
When he arrives, there is a coup, and the commander of the embassy military security force is killed. Now JCVD, the second in command, must take charge of protecting the president of Moldavia who is moved into the American embassy for protection as radical local militia members are out to kill him and take over the government.
They have to hold out with little ammo and a few marines until reinforcements arrive. When I say it's a different type of movie for JCVD, I mean it's not him going around by himself whipping ass with martial arts. He's a soldier leading a team of marines and they are in machine gun firefights with the enemy.
It's a team effort, not a solo movie for him this outing. His girlfriend, a photojournalist, is also trapped in the embassy. Even though the movie is from 2006, it's like something that could be ripped from the headlines today. Very relevant. JCVD does a great job in this role with his acting. The only thing the film had working against it was the budget, but the filmmakers and cast did a great job with what they had.

Not his top movie, but a good one to watch. It definitely shows him in a new light and highlights his acting capability. He does get to show off some of his sweet moves in a few scenes too.
I give it a 5 out of 10. Check it out and let me know what you think.
I'll catch you on my next Damme review.
