Day 1: "Timecop" (1994)

30 Damme Movies in 30 Damme Days!
The 1st Damme Day:

Greetings everyone! Patrick Bennett here. I'm going to attempt to watch a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie every day in the month of November 2023 and blog about each one I watch. Some might ask, "are there even 30 JCVD movies?" You're Damme straight there are! In fact, the "Muscles from Brussels" has been in over twice that number of movies.

For my first screening, I chose "Timecop" from 1994. It is directed by Peter Hyams who also directed "Outland" and "2010: The Year We Make Contact."
The movie stars JCVD as "Agent Walker," a law enforcement agent for a top-secret security agency called the TEC (Time Enforcement Agency), that regulates time travel to keep the new technology out of the wrong hands.

Playing Walker's wife is lovely actress Mia Sarah who was the girl from "Ferris Bueller" and "Legend."

The villain in the movie is actor Ron Silver who plays a senator running for president that sends people back in time to illegally raise millions of dollars for his advertising campaign to help him win the presidency. Van Damme must stop him before he kills many people to get what he wants and changes history.

I thought the film was fantastic! Great story and it was shot well. I started with this one today because it's one of my favorite JCVD flicks.

I first saw it in theaters in 1994 during its original release.
Being a nearly 30-year-old film, it still holds up very well. Judging from the awesome sets, vehicles, special effects, and stunts; it looks like this film had a hefty budget to work with. Van Damme did a great job as did all the actors involved. The time travel element added extra enjoyment to the normal martial arts action movies he's known for. I love this film and think that it's one of his best. He even pulls off his trademark off the ground split where his feet are on high objects, this time some kitchen cabinets. I certainly enjoyed watching it again. I'm going to rate each of the JCVD films I watch on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best. I give "Timecop"an 8!

My first Damme film is out of the way. 29 more Damme movies to go. I'm not planning what I'm going to watch ahead of time each day, I'm just going to come home from work, plop down on the sofa, and search to see which of his films are on my streaming services. I watched this one on the Roku channel itself. Give it a viewing and tell me what you think about it.

I want to mention that the film spawned a much cheaper sequel, "Timecop: The Berlin Decision" that was straight to video and starred Jason Scott Lee as another TEC agent.

There was also a very short TV series about a team of TEC agents, starring Ted King and Cristi Conway. It only lasted 9 episodes before time ran out and the series got the axe.

I'll be back tomorrow with my next  Damme movie!
